  • A BIG lemon! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

My parents bought my bug for me when I turned 16. I was so excited when I got it! But soon I started to hate it! So many things have gone wrong such as I have had to get a new clutch, thermostat, headlight, taillights, window motors in both Windows, plastic parts in the car are always breaking and etc. Taking it to a VW dealership is crazy because they charged me almost $400 just to look at it not to mention that the parts are very costly too! Overall its a cheaply made car! I would not recommend this car to anyone else!

  • Good car if its taken care of. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I bought my vw beetle a few months ago, and I have had a few problems. I had to replace the ball joints, and the catalytic converter the first week. However It was my fault because I purchased a vehicle without getting in inspected like I should have. I believe vws are good cars if you take care of them. So when you buy one used, just be careful not to buy one that has not had its scheduled maintenance like it should have.

  • 250k! <3 my bug. - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

My parents bought this car at 60k, gave it to me at 120k, and ive driven it up to 250k, and its still going. Ive had some issues, of course....its a car. Heating/cooling fan went out, clutch replaced once, windshield wiper fluid stopped spraying? cheap interior. Still, it is time I look for another car, and I am looking at VWs. Expensive repairs, but a VW will stay running forever. Do not pay $60 for your headlight. I bought the bulb for $12 and a small mechanic did labor for $8. Find someone else to do repairs! Youll pay 1/3 the price that you did at the dealer. Just make sure he/she knows what theyre doing.

  • I love this car - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

Since I got this car, there was only one problem with it and it was EZ Lubes fault. Took it there for an oil change and the next day oil was on my driveway. I recommend getting a Beetle. Its one of best cars I ever had and I think its really reliable. All these other people who had problems with it probably didnt really take good care of their Beetles. My Honda Civic had more problems than this car.

  • Pretty but Dumb - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I bought this car on impulse during a sad time in my life. It cheered me up for about two months. Unfortunately it has had four engine repairs, a broken hatchback door, battery died three times, and the a/c had to be replaced twice. I also replaced the clutch, air filters, and multiple electrical components. Its a beautiful, fun drive vehicle, but its reliability stinks. I am trading it in for a Toyota Corolla. I forgot to mention how lame VW dealerships are.

  • Most fun Ive ever had - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I wasnt looking to buy a Beetle when I was shopping for a car. But after buying one, I dont know if I can go back. The engine is amazing, the interior is very comfortable (the heated seats are a must, and the overall interior look is addictive. Strangers smile and wave at you just because of the car. Most people would not consider a bug because of the looks, but everyone I know has become a fan of my car.

  • Life in a Bug - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

My bug is a problem free vehicle as long as I perform all of the maintenance exactly on time. It knows when something is late and will then cause problems. Local repair places wont deal with it however. www.newbeetle.org has a very active community that has taught me much about the car. I also have a Vag-com from Ross-Tech Industries to read my cars computer and save trips to the dealer.

  • WATCH OUT! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

My car had a fair amount of miles on it when I purchased it so I assumed that maintenance would be a bit more expensive. Little did I know that everything on the car self-destructs at 50,000 miles. The interior is made entirely of plastic that breaks without notice (window switches, glove compartment, and arm rest compartment). Even the plastic brake light switches affiliated with the transmission release break (Ive replaced FOUR in one year!)! Watch out for this car! Its been in the shop about once per month in the 14 months that Ive owned it.

  • Enjoyed the car! - 2000 Volkswagen New Beetle

I have had this car for 2 1/2 years and finally selling it. I enjoyed the car. Wasnt quite as reliable as you might expect a car under 3 yrs old, but it is a fun car to drive. I had no major mechanical issues, just minor things. I considered buying a 02 TurboS, but instead bought a 03 C230K. Will be sad to see my car go, it was a lot of fun drive. The 2.0 (2.slow) has some pep, but you would expect better gas mileage. Roomy, fun to drive, and retro styling is very cool!

Have had trouble with the o2 sensor which is a recall item. It had to be replaced twice. The 40,000 mile check up cost around $500. The seats collect hair easily and are not easy to brush off. At cold temperatures, 0 degrees F Ive had trouble with the car not wanting to start, when this happens the airbag light and check engine light come on and have to be taken in to get reset.
